Amsterdam Airport To Keukenhof Gardens – Are you planning to go to Keukenhof directly from the airport? During the Keukenhof opening season (March 21 – May 12, 2024), you can travel by Keukenhof Express (bus no. 858). It will take you from Schiphol Airport to the garden entrance.
The Keukenhof Express departs from the bus stop near Schiphol. There are plenty of signs so you can easily find it locally.

A combined ticket (entrance + return bus fare) costs 31 euros in 2024, 50 euros for adults and 18 euros for children.
Visiting Keukenhof, The World’s Largest Tulip Garden
The time you select during the booking process depends on the bus departure. You can take all buses departing 30 minutes before and 60 minutes after your selected time slot. There are no time slots for return buses. You can take any bus you want.
Advice for a Dutch explorer! If you are late, you can still catch the bus later because in fact in 2024 the combi ticket is valid all day.
Please note that combination tickets to Keukenhof are sold in 30-minute intervals. For now, public transport operates according to its schedule. The best way to find out the exact departure time is through the official Arriva app called Glimble.
If you travel to Keukenhof immediately upon arrival in the Netherlands, it may be difficult to plan your departure time. If you want to have flexible departure times, purchasing an Amsterdam & Regions ticket may be a good option. Later you can also use it on public transport in Amsterdam and for trips to Zaanse Schans, Volendam, Haarlem and many other places in Amsterdam.

Of course, the bus is not for everyone! Luckily, there are countless airlines that fly to Schiphol Airport, but they tend to increase their airfare prices though during tulip season, so be sure to book in advance to get the cheapest tickets. Check out Ryan Air, Easy Jet, British Airways, Jet2, KLM, Air France and other airlines from across the continent for the lowest prices.
In the arrivals area, go to the far end where you will see a large Starbucks and exit the doors next to the Starbucks. There is a bus depot right in front of you and you will see a queue and Keukenhof staff directing you to the Keukenhof Express – bus number 858.
Here you can buy a bus ticket and entrance to the garden. Even if you don’t plan to go to the Keukenhof Gardens, you can buy a bus ticket just here to explore the surrounding area of Lisse. Keukenhof is surrounded by fields of tulip farms, so I used the Keukenhof Express to get to the area and rented a bike from the Keukenhof car park to explore the area by bike.
The official transit time from the airport to Keukenhof is approximately 30 minutes. But if you’re traveling during peak season, I’m willing to double that travel time. We went to Keukenhof during the peak flower weekend and it was also Easter weekend. The traffic in the Keukenhof Gardens parking lot was so heavy that there were queues for miles on the small single lane roads and it took us almost twice as long.
Visiting Keukenhof From Amsterdam: A Beautiful Tulip Filled Day Trip
Unfortunately (and this is strange), there is no direct connection from Amsterdam Central Station to Keukenhof. I would recommend taking the express train from Amsterdam Central to Schipol Airport, then changing at the airport to the Keukenhof express bus no. 858 that I mentioned above, and then following the steps above to get to Keukenhof. An express ticket to the airport costs 12 euros round trip (correct at the time of writing).

I would recommend taking the train from Amsterdam Central to Amsterdam RAI and changing to bus 852 there.
Most websites recommend taking the 858 bus back to the airport and then taking the express train into the city from there. Here is the alternative we took to get from Keukenhof to Amsterdam Central Station.
Tips For Visiting Keukenhof Gardens And Tulip Fields In The Netherlands
Take bus 859 from Keukenhof to Hoofddorp station (you can also use your Keukenhof bus ticket for 859, so I recommend this option).
We found the transport system very difficult to navigate due to limited signage and information points. This website provides more information about the ticketing system and how to purchase tickets. Located in Lisse, Keukenhof is a seasonal garden filled with millions of the most typical Dutch flowers: tulips. Located just 40 km from Amsterdam, this beautiful landscape spectacle makes for an easy day trip from the city. On a recent trip to the Netherlands, my husband and I had the opportunity to visit Keukenhof and below is an overview of our time at the gardens, including how we got there and what we did there.
After a quick breakfast of instant oatmeal in our hotel room, we set off later than expected at 10:15am for Keukenhof. We booked timed tickets with entry from 11:30 to 12:00, so we knew we would have to hurry if we wanted to book a table. With this in mind, we decided to take the metro to the central station rather than walk, which was our original plan. Once in Centralaal, we purchased a return train ticket to Schiphol Airport from one of the self-service kiosks located near the station entrance.
Unfortunately Lady Luck wasn’t looking down on us as when we got to the platform we saw that we had just missed the train to Schiphol and would have to wait 20 minutes.
