While true lip size is ultimately determined by genetic factors, there are many avenues to explore if she’s looking to make her lips look more plump. Although surgery is the only proven way to significantly increase their size, there are many ways you can naturally improve the shape and fullness of your pout. Before too long, you’ll be well on your way to a more beautiful radiant set of lips!

Let’s be honest, the girl is the queen of lips these days, from her lip fillers to her lip kits that seem to always sell out. And while I’ll probably never have lips like hers (after all, most, including her, would have to pay to look like them) I can definitely fake the look with a few beauty hacks. That I have picked up over the years.

If you’re in the mood for a bold pout, I’ve got a step-by-step breakdown of how I plump my lips, from exfoliation to overlining. But don’t worry, these tips won’t make you look like Miranda Sings. That look is his own. 😉

Exfoliating the lips helps remove dead skin cells, but it also increases blood flow to the lips, resulting in them feeling and looking fuller and plumper. I’ve been using a simple paste of sugar and olive oil on my lips to exfoliate any dead skin and soften my lips. After rubbing on the mixture, I leave it on for a few minutes to allow the olive oil to penetrate and hydrate. After a few moments have passed, I gently pat the mixture off with a paper towel or tissue.

Since my lips are dry all year round, hydration is important to me. I like to seal in any moisture in my lips with Vaseline Lip Therapy. (Bonus points for Vaseline, because it can be used on so much more than just your lips!) I let the Vaseline sit while I gather the rest of my lip balm essentials. After a few more minutes, I then pat it gently with a tissue.

To have the perfect base for lip liner and color, we’ll add in later steps, cover your lips with your foundation or concealer. Yes, it might sound a bit ridiculous, but we want to make sure that your lip liner doesn’t show pigment and it provides an extra base for lip products.

Overlining is great when done properly. The key is to go just above the cupid’s bow and down the center of the bottom lip, and just a tiny amount with your favorite lip pencil. Go too high, and you’ll look like Miranda Sings. If you stretch out the sides of your lips, it often looks uneven and overdone. Following the natural curve of your cupid’s bow, draw a small amount above it with your lip pencil. Then, do the same with the middle third of your lower lip. Then, follow around your natural lip line and connect the lines. Fill in your lips with a lip pencil that will act as an all-over base color for your lipstick.

When choosing your lip color, I would recommend sticking to something similar to your natural lip color, just a little darker. For this tutorial, I used Burberry Kisses Lipstick in Sepia. It’s a beautiful mauve toned nude that is very similar to my natural lip color, just darker. It also doesn’t have a very glossy finish but it’s a moisturizing formula which I love.

Once you’ve lined and filled in your lips with your favorite lipstick, grab your favorite highlighter and dab a small amount on top of your Cupid’s Bow. I used a small concealer brush so I could have full control over the highlight and avoid disturbing my lipstick, but you can also do this with your finger as part of the third step.

While liquid lipsticks and mattes may be all the rage, for a full pout, a gloss is where it’s at. The goal is to strategically place it in the lower center of your lip to make it look even bigger. I chose a nude shimmer that matches this lipstick perfectly.

With all the lining, filling, and glitter, sometimes things get a little messy. To make your pout look picture perfect, a small concealer brush and a dot of your favorite concealer or foundation to clean everything up does wonders!

Contouring under the lower lip can do a wonderful job of making your lips appear even bigger. How? This makes the natural shadow under your lower lip look even bigger and darker, while the highlight we added earlier makes your upper lip pop out.

And that’s it! While nine steps seems like a lot, I promise it will go by very quickly. Once you do it, you will easily be able to do it over and over again if you do. For me, this is a hack that I only do for special events or when I want my makeup look to be lip-focused.
