What Does Dragonflies Symbolize – I have encountered countless dragonflies throughout my life, just because growing up I went to the James River every spring and summer. Whether I was swimming, drifting down a tube, or diving into the jungle, dragonflies were always in sight. For me, seeing them was nothing out of the ordinary. After all, dragonflies are known for living near bodies of water like rivers, ponds and lakes, especially during the summer months. Other people, however, have not encountered the beautiful flying insect (and predator) and thus, are curious to learn the basic meaning of the dragonfly.

To shed some light on the glowing insects, we chatted with renowned psychic and mystic, Inbaal Honigman, about the meaning of the dragonfly. Keep reading to find out what she has to say.

What Does Dragonflies Symbolize

One might think that the meaning of the dragonfly is dangerous thanks to the predatory nature of the insect (as adults, they eat other insects and are very good at hunting for their own food). According to Honigman, though, dragonflies represent a positive moment of transition.

Dragonfly’s Meaning: What They Symbolize Spiritually If You See Them

“As a very slender creature, with almost transparent wings, lightness defines the dragon,” says Honigman. “They have an otherworldly, almost illusory charm—are they really here? Pull over, and you’ll miss them.”

With that in mind, one can assume that seeing a dragonfly is a reminder to take advantage of opportunities when they arise, because you never know when they’ll be around when the world (and your place within it) changes. . In the same vein, Honigman says that dragonflies represent hope, new beginnings, potential and happiness, and that they serve as a wonderful reminder to live each of your final days. “Make the most of every moment,” he says. You never know when it will pass.

Now, if the dragonfly is directly on you, it’s even more interesting, because it’s not just a passing reminder to be more prepared, but a direct response. Of course, if you’ve ever been around dragonflies, you probably know that they can bite. While their wounds are not considered dangerous and usually don’t even break the skin, they can bite (I’m speaking from first hand experience). That being said, even a dragonfly bite has meaning. “It can represent a fear of change,” Honigman says. “Since dragonflies symbolize transformation, the stroke may be your discomfort at the thought of transforming your life.”

It is not uncommon to see dragonflies flying together, as they are a genus of insects known to be insectivorous (ie: flying en masse to prey on other insects). Although it’s a completely natural occurrence, it’s actually important to witness it, Honigman says. “Seeing a group of dragonflies adds to the meaning of one dragonfly,” he explains. “It’s spiritual meaning of transformation, and making the most of what you have, increases, and so the message is more clear.”

If you’re not directly on the water or particularly close to the water, but you see dragonflies regularly, Honigman says the message comes through loud and clear in an effort to get across. “If you see dragonflies again and again, it may be because you are being asked to make a change in your life, to transform yourself,” she says. (which is similar to the meaning of the king butterfly). “The more you ignore the message, the more it will appear. If you’re seeing dragonflies at an unusual rate, you may have ignored the messages for a while, so sit back and think – where does the transition need to take place? For What changes can you make for yourself to make the most of your life?”
