What Does It Mean When Someone Gives You A Purple Tulip – You may think that accepting help is not a good thing. Because you may feel guilty for feeling like a burden to someone. Or you feel bad or embarrassed because you need help now. Maybe you’re afraid of seeming needy. Or you’re afraid people will say no and you’ll look a bit stupid.

It’s understandable to feel that way. There are many reasons why getting help is seen as a no-no or a last-ditch effort. But some of these reasons are culturally rooted and will not actually help us.

If you’ve read my previous blogs on this topic, or if you’ve recently lost your independence due to illness or injury and are recovering, you’ll see that I’ve been writing about this topic in many different ways over the last few years.

The Power Of Reciprocity: The Meaning Behind ‘you Get What You Give’

In this blog, I want to explain why it’s good to accept help. Either way, it’s thought-provoking and challenging your assumptions about accepting help. Next time you can accept help (or not), you can make a truly informed decision for yourself.

A recent example is Eliud Kipchog, the first man to run a marathon under two hours at 12

October 2019. He didn’t do it alone. It was a carefully planned event that took years of preparation. It was attended by sponsors, coaches, training teams, the city of Vienna, 41 pacemakers and many others.

Eliud needed their help and support. If you’ve watched the race, you’ll know how lucky it is. Pacemakers regularly: “I’m so glad I did this. It’s pride. “

They wanted to help. Eliud took it all and used it to do what he does best, run a marathon while on target. They took credit for helping a fellow runner and being a part of this historic challenge and helping make it happen.

Eliud asked for help. He got it. Those who helped received something in return. It’s a healthy type of give and take.

There’s also the added bonus of what her coach, Patrick Sang, has done for others: “She’s inspired us all to push our limits in life.” I’m sure we’ll see more marathon runners under two hours soon.

What Is Gaslighting? 10 Signs & How To Get Help

I think that’s why some people are afraid to ask for and accept help. They are afraid of being dependent on another person. They may even feel like they are seen, that is, they are now “given” to the other person.

Interdependence creates connection. With others. You know what? We humans thrive on it. Serious illness or injury and chronic illness can be very isolating. When we turn away from genuine support or offers of help that would actually help us, we can intentionally isolate ourselves. That’s why we don’t allow ourselves to stretch our limits.

When someone wants to help us, we know we matter. When we sincerely accept their help, they know they matter.

Knowing that we matter to someone else is a very reassuring experience. We assert ourselves. They recognized us. Witness. These are the things that make us respect ourselves.

When I ask for help, the other person says yes to help. (If we ask the right person to help us, that is, they are willing and able to help us.)

The person who gives is happy to help me. They know they are doing a good job. They feel good.

Not only do we want to give and receive help, but we break the rhythm of giving and receiving. Read more about #seriousillness #seriousinjury Share on X

Accepting help is difficult for many people for the reasons I mentioned earlier. Sometimes those reasons are valid. Other times it is not. When they don’t, it’s often because of society’s assumptions about getting help, that it’s a sign of weakness to look too “suffocated” or incompetent, or to need help.

A Guide To Angel Numbers And What They Mean

This disrupts the rhythm of acceptance and non-harmful health. We are done with this inequality in society, we have no place to give but no good to receive.

Going back to Eliud Kipchog’s example above, by giving and receiving help, you are allowing good things to happen. You are pushing the boundaries of what is possible for yourself and others.
