What Color Lipstick Makes Lips Look Bigger – Whether Brigitte Bardot, Angelina Jolie or Kylie Jenner is your poster girl to look up to, a bee stingy bod is on everyone’s lips and with it liner has made its comeback. With its checkered history in the 80’s and 90’s, lip liner is now less about color contrast and more about contour – undetectable creating the illusion of volume.
To DIY fuller lips without looking like a blow-up doll, BareMinerals International Makeup Artist Sarah-Jane Froom showed Online Beauty Editor Bridget how to enhance her natural pout with easy-to-follow tips and tricks. The main rule: see the light.
What Color Lipstick Makes Lips Look Bigger
“Lighter colors stand out more to the natural eye. Adding light to your lips will instantly bring your lips forward making them appear larger” explains Sarah-Jane. “Adding a great shine will enhance the appearance of your lips even more”. Try this:
Lipstick Colors And What Statements They Make
Cover your lips with either foundation or concealer to brighten and emphasize the lip line. Adding light layers around the lips will make the lips appear fuller. This also doubles as a good primer for lipstick. We used bareMinerals Correcting Concealer.
First make sure your lip liner is sharp before you use it, this will help with creating a more precise line. Line the lip from below to create a shadow. We used bareMinerals Marvlous Moxie Lip Liner in Liberated.
Using the same liner, underline the natural line of the bow. Use a color that best matches your natural lip tone. Then, use a cotton bud or your finger to blend out the lines, softening the lip line for a natural effect.
Fill your lips with a nude lipstick. A nude color slightly lighter than your natural lip tone will create the illusion of larger lips. We use bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie at Be Free. Scroll down for tips that suit YOU below.
How To Create Plump Pouty Lips
Apply a gloss in the center of the lips to add light. The iridescent sheen from a high gloss gloss product will help lips look instantly fuller. This is a great tip to improve what you already have. We used bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in Rule Breaker.
Finding the perfect nude lip color that works for both your skin tone and your natural lip color can be difficult. “I tend to look for a lip color that is similar to the natural tone of your lips and a color that is a little more intense but not far from your natural tone” Sarah-Jane explains, with these rules.
“If your lips are pale, you should go for cream, sandy or even a pale nude pink. Pale skin tends to look better wearing nude color and more of a pinky tone as nude brown can wash you out.”
“If you have a medium lip tone that is pinky, then I recommend you go for a brown nude or even a little darker rosy nude. Medium skin tone can opt for a pinky nude, a little more neutral but with a hint of pink.”

“If you are a little darker skin and your lips are naturally quite dark I would go for a darker more beige nude. A nude with a red / orange tone can look beautiful. Olive skin can go for a real beige nude – perfect over time.”
